6 – Obituary #2
Seth William Hornbrook is preceded in death by his father, the Reverend Lynn William Hornbrook and his grandfather, William Glynn Hornbrook.
Seth was 31 years old.
* * * * *
By the time Seth died, I had not had any meaningful contact with family for two years. In late 2012, I was selling my boat, two divorces and several girlfriends in, completely estranged and betrayed by family and closest friends, about to lose my job, and embarking on a poly family experiment that would explode my life with deceit and lies.
I cursed my brother for his example, for the wedge that he had driven between his children and me. That sweet boy. The family tree, the name my father proudly gave us all, would die.
The irony of my brother’s death in the Willamette River.
I was childless.
The fate of our family, victim of slow swimmers.
