I dissent.
I shall not abide by this illegitimate corrupt Supreme Court.
In 1857, the United States Supreme court decided in Dred Scott vs. Sandford by a 7-2 vote that African Americans were not U.S. citizens. Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger B. Taney wrote the majority opinion:
Any person descended from Africans, whether slave or free, is not a citizen of the United States, according to the U.S. Constitution.
The Ordinance of 1787 could not confer either freedom or citizenship within the Northwest Territory to non-white individuals.
The provisions of the Act of 1820, known as the Missouri Compromise, were voided as a legislative act, since the act exceeded the powers of Congress, insofar as it attempted to exclude slavery and impart freedom and citizenship to non-white persons in the northern part of the Louisiana Purchase.
This was wrong, in so many ways. Historically, it’s viewed as the worst decision by the United States Supreme Court. It played a major role in leading the U.S. to Civil War. It almost broke the nation.
The Supreme Court has again made a massive mistake.
Today’s ruling may be worse. It destroys a fundamental tenet of American Democracy, that no one is above the law.
Ironically, the case is called "Trump vs. the United States.” Trump doesn’t give a shit about the United States. Trump only cares about Trump, con man and crook, and convicted felon and twice impeached President*.
An evil President could commit genocide under this ruling and not be held to account by U.S. laws.
The Roberts court is corrupt. This ruling is a coffin nail for American Democracy. Shame on this corrupt Supreme Court.
Look what it took to undo the Dred Scott decision.
NO ONE is above the law.
I dissent.
Lee G. Hornbrook
Outraged Citizen of the United States of America
for however little time this country has left.
Lee, know that many people around the world are looking on this decision with a mix of disbelief, fear and horror. I dearly hope US voters will do what the Supreme Court has abjectly failed to do, and reject the march towards authoritarianism come November.
It’s a public wasteland, now that those in unearned authority have spoken.
