My partner, dog, and I are taking a long weekend trip to Savannah, GA, our second trip in these h’yere parts. We will dip our feet into the Atlantic, taste some Southern cuisine, take some hikes, and see what Savannah has to offer. We’ll head back to Atlanta on Sunday. We have an extra day off planned on Monday, and we’re planning on taking in a garden in the area around Atlanta
Querying the Time Away
After the Atlanta Writers Conference, I sent out two completed queries to Ladderbird Literary Agency and to The Rights Factory. Ladderbird has a really great querying system, and the owner of The Rights Factor, whom I queried, sent a brief but friendly “got it, I’ll be in touch” note. It’s a nice personal touch that he didn’t have to do. Speaks highly of his company.
I finished my first Developmental Edit revision letter for my class on editing memoir on the book Lab Girl. It’s an exciting process for me, something new to learn that uses some of my existing skills.
I traded my manuscript with another writer. She got back to me with a really great letter of her own. She ticked all the boxes of how I figured my manuscript would be received by an audience, even the parts that maybe won’t please an audience. I’m now looking for help with my query.
Next week, as I get back into a different swing of things, I’ll start sharing more of how the memoir came to be as well as share some of the stories - some of which I kept in the book and some which I ultimately deleted.
Have a great weekend. The end of spring is approaching, the weather is heating up, and the summer bloom is thickening the trees in the woods around our apartment. Before long, the cicadas will be here.
Enjoy your time with friends and family. Thanks for reading. Please share this newsletter with others. The larger an audience, the more chance I have to break into the publishing world.
Until next time, I’ll . . .
Just keep writing!
